3 Things I wish I had done when I started blogging.

This post is a little different to my others, I thought I would share with you three things I wish I had done when I first started blogging…

I started my blog at the end of February/beginning of March 2018, when we had all that snow. Me and James where in the process of moving house, most of our belongings were packed away in boxes and I felt a little lost waiting around. So I started my blog.

lifestyle.jpgI mean by no way am I an expert in the blogging scene (far, far from it!) but I thought I would share the three things I wish I had done when I first started blogging…

One. Don’t Give up – Keep on going.

This might be a strange way to begin, but I wish I had not given up so easily when I first started my blog.

When I first started, I was so excited to write down my ideas and publish my posts. However, even though I really enjoyed writing for myself, being a new ‘blogger’ was a little disheartening as I felt like no one really cared what I had to say, or read my posts for that matter. How dramatic of me. I soon ran out of steam after 2 months of consistently blogging and then unknowingly had a two month break. It wasn’t until June that I really missed writing posts and having that creative outlet away from everyday life, so decided I would continue blogging for myself and just enjoy the creativity!

This brings me to the present day & I am still very much enjoying my little space on the internet.

Two. Share my posts on Social Media.

So, I set up a separate twitter account straight away for my blog and had no problems sharing my posts on there and interacting with other bloggers (everyone was so welcoming!).

However, I have only just started sharing my blog posts on Instagram and I really wish I had done this sooner. The main reason for me not sharing on this platform, was the fear that people I know IRL would laugh at me and wonder what the heck I was doing. I shouldn’t of worried though, no one has laughed (that I know of anyway!) and I have found that it has helped drive traffic to my blog, which is a win win!

Three. Start my blog sooner.

So my final point is that I wish I had started my blog sooner. I started a blog way back in 2014 when I first discovered blog posts and thought it would be something I would enjoy. I’m not sure how long I had that blog for before deleting it, or why I even deleted it for that matter?
So fast forward to today, I wish I had started my current blog sooner as its been something that I have really enjoyed doing in my spare time.

So there are the 3 things I wish I had done when I first started blogging. Let me know if there are any things you wish you had done differently when you first started your blog.

  1. I really enjoyed this πŸ™‚ some fantastic advice shared here! You really do need to be SO persistent because blogging is a total grind. An amazing one don’t get me wrong. But you have to put the work in. I’d love to know a bit more about how you get traffic from Instagram? It’s never really worked for me! Do you have a post about it? πŸ™‚ Rach x

    1. Awh thankyou so much! I know, I love it, but it can be a little overwhelming sometimes!

I don’t have a post, it’s really simple what I have been doing… I have just been putting my posts out there more.

Once I have published a blog post, I usually put up a main image on my Instagram telling everyone I have a new post on the blog, with relevant hash tags so people who don’t follow me can find it aswell. Then a couple of days later (I don’t want to spam people), I usually put the same picture in my Instagram stories to remind people of my post.

That’s how I’ve received traffic from Instagram to my blog, just by promoting it! Some posts do better than others though. I hope that makes sense?

      xx

  2. Thanks for sharing Sophie. I just started my blog in August. I see so many who say they started, then stopped at some point. Thank you for the encouragement to keep it up. I share posts to FB and Twitter, but haven’t shared them on Instagram, I need to start doing so!!

Awh yes you should share them to instagram too. I don’t have a FB page for my blog, so maybe I should make one, perhaps my next step πŸ™‚
